Chadron State Park is a beautiful park with many amenities. Hiking, fishing, horse back riding, or just have a family picnic. A beautiful park!

A mix of ponderosa pines and highplains grassland, this is a perfect place to hike, bike, and camp. Absolutely beautiful!
I love to hike here, but this particular trail (Campground Trail) was disappointing. HOWEVER, 6 weeks later I hiked the Black Hills Overlook, and it was very rewarding! I wish I'd had a guide map to give me a sense of how far it was to the actual overlook, as I was pressed for time. The part of the trail that I hiked was a mixture of tree-lined path and open trail. There was a lovely family of turkeys (8 young) scrambling for cover! The trail led past several buttes stretching into the clear blue sky. Late summer wildflowers were also showing off here and there.
Actually an artificial (planted) forest but still a scenic and impressive place even for someone from a Nordic country (a lot of forest)
